Chiropractic Therapies

We offer a wide range of conventional and contemporary chiropractic therapies, giving us flexibility to meet diverse needs. Alternatives exist for patients unable to tolerate certain therapies, and therapies can be used in combination to yield superior results.

Manipulation (Adjustment)

The chiropractic ‘adjustment’ also referred to as chiropractic manipulation, refers to a chiropractor applying a highly specific and gentle thrust to the vertebra and joints of the body, to mobilize joints, relieve pain and restore normal cell processes and function.

The objective of this chiropractic treatment is to restore motion to joints that have become immobile, to optimize joint and nerve function, improving overall health of the entire system.

chiropractic therapiesSoft-Tissue Therapy

Relief of anatomical dysfunction involving all body tissues, including the muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

The hand massage of collateral soft tissue surrounding bones and joints. A variety of techniques (e.g., cross-friction, myofascial, acupressure, trigger point) are available for use as separate therapies or as adjuncts to chiropractic manipulation to avoid micro-tearing of tissue, and to restore blood flow to hypovascular tissue.

chiropractic therapiesPosture Education

Highly effective for eliminating chronic pain, correcting postural misalignment, and enhancing overall body function and performance.

Simple, highly targeted exercises designed to restore proper motion to specific joints (eg., back, hips, knees, ankles, elbows). Exercises can be performed at home with little or no equipment, following one-on-one instruction and practice with the chiropractor. Egoscue and foundation training products (books and tapes) for home use are available for purchase at the clinic.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation

Relieves acute and chronic pain and associated edema and inflammation; helps diffuse metabolic toxins; increases circulation; stimulates healing.

Delivers electrical current in therapeutic frequencies to tissues through strategically placed electrodes, resulting in deep skeletal stimulation. Treatment can be delivered in the clinic offices or at home by the patient. Home units are available for purchase at the clinic.

Laser therapy is a treatment modality which utilizes specific wavelengths of light applied to tissue for the relief of pain, to decrease inflammation and to accelerate the healing process. This painless application is a non-invasive and effective way to manage pain and injury by helping to restore normal cell processes and functions.

The laser uses ‘focused’ light to stimulate tissue repair by promoting cellular regeneration, encouraging collagen production and increasing blood supply for improved circulation. Additionally, it reduces inflammation, which helps minimize the pain associated with many chronic conditions, including arthritis, tendinitis and injuries. Some of the other benefits associated with laser therapy include relieving muscle spasms and stimulating nerve regeneration.

Laser therapy may be done independently or in conjunction with other forms of treatment, such as chiropractic management. The handheld laser used by our clinician is about the size of a flashlight. Treatments can vary in length, depending on the severity of the condition being treated. The laser is placed directly over the injured area and light is emitted through the layers of the tissue. As cells absorb this light energy, healing begins as the cells regulate the damaged tissue, reduce inflammation and lessen pain. Additionally, the healing process is accelerated by increasing the metabolism of the cells.

Due to the low level of light applied, this procedure does not threaten or destroy tissue, and is very safe when done appropriately.

The biological and physiologic effects of laser therapy have been proven to reduce pain, repair tissue damage, and improve metabolism and circulation. If you feel you may benefit from this exciting treatment, contact us today at 259-5096, option 6!

Orthotic Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers

Relieves chronic pain, improves circulation and restores symmetry .

Digital foot scan to assess pronation index and ordering appropriate stabilizers (orthotics) as needed.

Useful for relief of back and leg pain associated with disc herniation and stenosis; restores natural spinal motion and joint function.

Use of an adjustable ergonomic table for gentle traction and to stretch the spine, allowing the chiropractor to isolate the area of disc involvement while slightly flexing the spine in a pumping rhythm. Relieves pressure on the intervertebral disc and eases irritation of spinal nerves.

Exercise Therapy

Useful for pain reduction, stress reduction, prevention of muscle deterioration, improved joint health, protection against new or recurring injuries, and general improvement of strength, stability and range of motion.

Patient-specific stretching and strength training programs for use at home and gym. Yoga classes are available at the clinic for patient convenience.

chiropractic therapiesPersonal Care Plan

Integrative Focus Care in YNC’s chiropractic center is typically co-managed internally by our chiropractor and our naturopathic physicians. This gives patients the convenience of coordinated, integrative medical-chiropractic care under one roof. We also consult with, refer patients to, and co-manage care with providers outside our center, including neurologists, neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, and physical therapists. When surgery is indicated, we can provide pre- and post-surgical chiropractic care to improve outcomes.

By combining disciplines, patients benefit from a diversity of domains. Through integrative care, we ensure that patients get the full benefit of all appropriate therapies and perspectives.

Comprehensive Assessment/Diagnostics
In all cases, chiropractic treatment is preceded by comprehensive assessment and diagnostics to understand patient needs and treatment goals. Key tools include:

  • Intake exams
For each patient, we take a detailed medical history, conduct a comprehensive physical exam, discuss daily activities and dietary practices, and review past and current injuries and current symptoms.
  • Imaging evaluations
As appropriate, we order and review imaging technologies (including X-rays, MRIs, and bone scans), evaluating from a perspective of total body performance. We can also access and review existing digital films taken at local hospitals or by other local providers.
  • Postural evaluations
Multi-view, computerized postural analyses can be conducted to identify dysfunctional weight distribution affecting the joints, torso, limbs, and organs. The patient receives a detailed personalized posture report including photographs, postural listings, diagrams, and corrective exercises.
  • Posture assessments
To identify the cause of workplace injuries and discomfort and prevent recurrence, we do on-site assessments of work environments, equipment designs, and work procedures.

Comprehensive Treatment Plans
Our comprehensive treatment plans, based on information gathered through assessment and diagnostics, recommend appropriate and beneficial therapies, treatment frequencies, and progress monitoring. Plans components might include:

  • Chiropractic therapies
  • Postural assessment
  • Integrative treatments (including acupuncture, regenerative injection therapy (RIT), and comprehensive natural pain management) with YNC physicians
  • Recommendations for ergonomic changes to workstation layouts, equipment design, and work procedures
  • Recommendations for nutritional, dietary, and lifestyle improvement
  • Referrals for integrative evaluation and treatment by outside providers
  • Patient education to encourage self-sufficiency and reduce healthcare costs, every patient is educated for self-care and prevention. Opportunities for self-care include postural improvements, elimination of repetitive motion in daily activities, home exercise and stretching, and improvements to diet and nutrition. Education can take the form of one-on-one instruction or participation in regular group classes and workshops at the clinic on posture, pain relief, and chiropractic care.
